Abstract
The objective of the present study was to investigate the immunomodulating property of supercritical fluid extracts of Ulmus daviana var. japonica (USCF) using various in tests. USCF has been widely used as traditional medicine due to its pharmacological activities. In this study, we showed that USCF possessed immunomodulating activities as cytokine production from lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced immune response model in U937 cells. The immunostimulating effects of USCF were further evaluated through various immunological tests. USCF showed excellent activity of reducing LPS-induced immune responses from U937 cells such as nitric oxide and IL-1¥â in a dose dependent manner. UCSF (1.25 - 10 ¥ìg/ml) were gradually reduced LPS-induced nitrite production (P<0.01). Similarly, LPS-induced IL-1¥â release also significantly blocked by 10 ¥ìg/ml USCF (P<0.01). These results suggested that USCF is biologically functional in immunomodulating properties.
